One Planet Prosperity – Our Regulatory Strategy is a unique and visionary blueprint for making SEPA a regulator fit for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. In this, we recognise there is increasing pressure on the planet’s scarce resources, and only nations, societies and businesses that have developed ways to prosper within the Earth’s capacity to support them will thrive in the 21st century.
We are therefore taking active steps to help regulated businesses to reduce their water use, carbon-based energy use, materials use and all forms of waste and pollution beyond compliance standards, in ways that improve their profitability and long-term viability.
The Sustainability Leadership Development Programme (SLDP), delivered through a partnership between the Centre for Sustainable Practice and Living (CSPL) and the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), is designed to help businesses to move towards one planet living. The four day programme, starting on 17 August, aims to enable leaders to make better decisions by helping them combine operating priorities with emerging economic, social and environmental trends. The programme provides practical insights and toolkits to address key threats and opportunities.
Supporting this programme is an important step forward for SEPA in enabling us to help businesses meet regulations and go beyond compliance, and be more sustainable as part of their economic success.
Our CEO, Terry A’Hearn, said “The only profitable businesses in the 21st century will have low environmental impact. They will be visionary. They will see the environment and social issues as massive market opportunities. This programme will help Scottish senior executives and decision-makers to do just that.”
