VIBES Awards – 2016 winner’s spotlight

We’ll be giving you a chance over the coming weeks to learn more about the businesses who won a VIBES Award in 2016.

VIBES – Scottish Environment Business Awards is Scotland’s leading environmental awards scheme. The Awards recognises and rewards businesses which are championing sustainability and employing environmental best practice in their daily activity through improving processes or developing new products and services.

  • VIBES 2016 Green Team Award winner

    Edinburgh Leisure was created in 1998 to manage and develop sport and leisure services on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council. The organisation is now a leading leisure trust with a turnover of almost £30 million, over 800 employees and 4.8 million customer visits a year. They are inspiring Edinburgh to be a more active and healthy city. Edinburgh leisure has a corporate green plan which identifies the targets and then the green team at each venue identifies how it can set about meeting these. A competition element is introduced between the venues to provide incentives to achieve the targets. Strong community engagement is in place to promote sustainable initiatives.

  •  VIBES 2016 Management (SME) Award winner


    The Edinburgh International Conference Centre host sustainable events in Edinburgh. Conferences, government meetings, exhibitions, banquets, AGMs, performing arts (Edinburgh International Festival) and many more events are held at the centre. Edinburgh International Conference centre have a strong commitment to environmental improvements; their Plan-it Green Sustainable Events programme provides a framework for all events to provide the most sustainable option for customers.

  •  VIBES 2016 Micro Business Award winner

    Situated on Scotland’s North West Coast, the Glenuig Inn is a traditional Highland inn with modern, practical accommodation for visitors. It uses 100% renewable energy sources and has introduced many other green measures, including a biomass boiler that uses dried food waste as a fuel source.

  • VIBES 2016 Innovation Award winner

    Headquartered in Scotland and a recognised industry leader for over 10 years, Veracity design and manufacture innovative transmission, storage and display products for the security surveillance market. An accredited ISO14001 company, their pioneering products are recommended and trusted by leading IP camera manufacturers worldwide and are purposely energy efficient and energy-saving. Their products use significantly less power and materials than other products on the market. The products are designed to be upgraded easily with the latest technology and are designed for disassembly and repair.

  • VIBES 2016 Circular Economy Award winner

    Marlin operates in the electrical energy distribution and telecommunications industries. The company was founded in 2012 and now has 36 full time employees & a turnover in excess of £2M. Marlin Industries re-furbish and remanufacture cable drums. This reduces waste and carbon footprint of the drums by keeping them in use longer, reducing the reliance on raw materials. Marlin provide timber cable drum management and logistics support through supply chains to UK/European based manufacturers.

    John Droog, Director, Marlin Industries Scotland Ltd, said “Being selected to receive the VIBES Circular Economy award is a tremendous validation for Marlin Industries as a company and the philosophy of making best use of existing resources. The industry in which Marlin operates, although important to national infrastructure, doesn’t have a particularly high profile. Receiving this award aptly recognises the skill and commitment of the people within Marlin, which through VIBES has been communicated to a much wider audience.

  • Commended for VIBES 2016 Management (Large) Award


    UK specialises in business process outsourcing (BPO) to large companies. The company is committed to delivering good environmental practices in all areas of the business and has been awarded accreditation for ISO 50001 and ISO 140001 along with 180001, 27001 and 9001. They demonstrated excellent commitment to sustainability, providing significant reductions in resource use.
